The English along with Wales Pitted in the Same Group for the 2027 World Cup Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by rugby icons such as former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts find themselves placed in the same group for the World Cup in 2027, setting up a major early clash in Australia. They are joined in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing echoes their memorable clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the English team's surprise group stage elimination.

Key Group Draws

The Irish and Scotland have likewise been drawn in a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a 36-14 win, with their opponents failing to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, both impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Notably, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from defending champions and world number one South Africa before the showpiece match, presuming the South Africans top their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the groups conclude according to the current global standings, further leading contenders like New Zealand and Les Bleus would remain separated from both the English and Ireland all the way to the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining top-ranked nation on the same side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Face Major Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their great rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at jump-start the event.

In other groups, reigning champions the Springboks have drawn Italy, the Lelos and the Oaks. The French team are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Format for 2027

Los Pumas will take on Fiji, Spain and the Canadian team as the tournament grows to twenty-four nations from the twenty who competed in France.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a round of 16 stage for the very first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will meet the second-placed team from Pool B – probably Italy – in the first knockout round.

Four of the other six pool winners will play a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
