Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
